I've aquired an offcut of an Ikea wooden (Birch I think) kitchen worktop, which I've made in to a chopping board. Ikea say use this stuff to treat thier worktops

Any other reccomendationd? Presumably linseed oil would do a fairly good job (and easier to get than going to Ikea), but after haivng seen Ray Mears do it with a cup he made, could I just use normal vegatable oil?

I've been making treenware (chopping, bread boards etc.) for a good many years out of sycamore, beech, walnut cherry, all I ever use is a cooking oil of some description. If you use and wash the items on a frequent basis just re oil occasionally.

How long have you kept them? I found a few sites saying that veg oils can mean they go rancid after a while.
