Typical situation, I have two old chairs which to be honest I would like rid of as they are not comfortable either on my eye or my spine. I was going to take them to my local friendly council recycling center, that is until a family member who, lets be honest, knows nothing about such things became adamant there actually valuable antiques.

Now I'll be the first to admit I know nothing about furniture never mind antiques but its put me in the position of not really being confident enough to throw them away, and yet not sure enough to take them somewhere professional for the fear of being laughed out the door.

So hoping someone on here can point me in the right direction I attach the below picture. Please help!

Well I know nothing about antiqus but I'd be amazed if you couldn't £100 for the pair. That said someone more informed than me may say they're worth far more wink

Do you have a local auction house? Either take them along or send a photo and see - you never know.

I recently had to clear a house and my local place Reemans were very good and also diplomatic if you showed them somehting that was worthless!

Barley sugar carving and cane work suggest a Victorian take on the 17th century 'Restoration' style.

It has a value (unfortunately I don't have access to sale records to suggest how much), but get it appraised at least.

The seat is rank, but properly upholstered and with nice cushions, that would make a lovely bit of furniture.

You could turn it into a commode and sell it to emsman, thus ensuring he won't break his neck falling off a real toilet...

Oh, no, wait...he'd probably slip whilst emptying the bucket, bad idea.

Indeed, and to someone who likes the style it would be very appealing. I do like the style, and if you were closer I'd happily give you some cash for them. (Snag is you're in Doncaster and I'm in London!)
