Recently moved home, needs new windows, cavity wall insulation (loft looks fine) new combi boiler

have done some research (energy savign trust) and it seems these grants are only available if you are over 60 or are on benefits?

the only one we seem to qualify for (as both work) is cavity wall insulation discounted to around £200.

Seem to hear in the press lots of coverage about assisting people to make their homes more energy efficient but when it boils down to it unless you are having solar panels, there is bugger all -

anyone know any different?

I suppose you could say that if you are young, fit and have the money, then you can do it yourself, and state aid is saved for those who are not. The country has used up all its money and is curently clearing out the world bank as well!

I do agree with you Simpo - if you can't afford it, then don't do it

However, all I seem to hear/read is promoting energy efficiency and around £350m put aside in grants to assist everyone to do this..

Not sure when the boiler scrappage scheme is up and running and tbh you will probably find its cheaper to just go the normal route and get quotes etc looking at this

If the boiler scrappage scheme goes the same way as the solar greenskies thing, you'll have 2 options - pay £6k for a boiler from an approved installer with a grant to reduce the cost by about £2k to £4k, or pay a non-member to do it for £3k.
Still, at least the boiler scrappage scheme will mean even more cheap plumbing bits on ebay.
Every bundle of copper pipe, most of the fittings, and a whole lot more I've bought for our house were sold by plumbers installing for warmfront or councils/housing associations. When collecting stuff I've been offered entire bathroom suites, boilers, all sorts. All at discount rates subsidised by the taxpayer. Well done Labour.
