Kitchen Wall Unit to Plasterboard Wall
Discussion
Ok I have a strong brick wall, of which half needs Kitchen Wall untis to hung on and the other half will be painted.
I thought the easiest way (and cheapest) would be to put Wood Battons on the wall, then screw plasterboard to it. Get the Plasterer in to skim it, and then hang the cabinets.
However how is the best way to hang the cabinets because I wouldn`t have thought plasterboard fixings would be strong enough, and trying to go through the plasterboard into the wall would mean I have to use extremely long screws and again not an ideal fixing.
Any ideas welcome ?? Is the easiest way to let the plasterer just plaster on the brick wall and thus removing the depth of the batton ?
Thanks

Best way is to get a spread in. If you fancy doing it yourself then "dot n dab" the plasterboard on the walls. Just work out where the unit fixings are going to be and make sure you put extra adhisive in that area so when you place the board on the wall the adhisive spreads to form a solid bed to screw into. It might sound like hassle but really its quite simple. This applies to any area where somethings gonna be attached to the wall, rads etc.
Homebase sell Phirana dry wall bolts - screwfix sell them as well but are just classified as hollow wall anchors;

You will need to buy the fixing tool as well;

I have used these all around my home - from putting up mirrors and curtain rails to hanging Tv's on walls.
They do them in a range of different sizes.
If two can hold up a 40 inch LED tv then kitchen cabinets will be no problem.

however i would not use these to fix a kitchen wall cupbord typicaly weighing 30kgs with full items , you get condensation , etc. thats a lot of weight to risk on a piece of plasterboard .
i would use the batton method then attach the wall cupboard through the plasterboard to the batton
^^^ which is my point. Why go to the trouble of putting plasterboard on the wall when it just makes your cabinets harder to fix? Just screw the f
kers straight to the brick wall + plaster and have done!
(The thread title is misleading, it's not a plasterboard wlal, it's a brick wall)

just dot and dab the plaster board and put plenty around the height of the fixing point, the plaster board is only 12.5mm thick and the dots should be about the same. A two and a half 10 or a three inch 10 will be fine. Ive been fitting kitchens on and off for 15 years and never had a problem

We used them to put up kitchen cabinets about 5 years ago, and they're still there.

.The larger ones are rated at being able to hold 75kg each!!
I wouldn't trust those fittings to hold anything heavy up. Used them loads of times in the past, they do kinda work well when they work, but don't work as often as they do.
If would suggest either:
Get a plasterer in to plaster directly the whole wall on the brick and then affix the units directly to the plaster surface with brick fixings. - Bestest strongest option.
If you want to plasterboard, do the dot and dab and as said before make sure you have loads of adhesive around where you will put fixings through the plasterboard otherwises you will end up breaking up the plasterboard as you try to fix though it and the air gap behind and into the brick. The tightening of the brick fixing will crush the plasterboard into the air gap behind it.
If you still want to batten and plasterbord, put some extra woooden battens horizontally along the wall where you will later fix the units to the wall, then just screw though the plasterboard into the wood battens when you fit your units.

I'd be very suprised if plaster board could take a 75kg load at a single pointineedagallardo said:

there aren't any studs to hit, its a brick wall
Plotloss said:
Cut a slot in the pb vertically, put a bit of wood in with a screw in it, twist into place in the void, put a holding screw in then screw the cabinets to the new bit of wood.
This is if you cant hit a stud, which you should be able to do.
