Recommend me somewhere to live
Discussion
I'm thinking about where I should live that's reasonably near to where I work and in a nice area. Can anyone recommend me somewhere that meets the following criteria:
1) It should be possible to get to my current job in North Acton in less than an hour in the rush hour, either by car or train (to Willesden Junction or North Acton tube).
2) I don't think I'm going to stay in my current job for ever when the economy picks up, and my next job will most likely be based in the City. It should be possible to also get to there in less than an hour in the rush hour.
3) I would like to have at least 2 good sized bedrooms, bathroom, lounge and kitchen for a budget of 300K. Ideally I'd prefer a house with a garden to a flat.
4) The location should be as safe, crime-free and rural as possible given the budget and proximity to London.
I'm currently thinking of one of the villages near Hatfield / St Albans / Welwyn Garden City. Does anyone have any other suggestions?

You could get quite a way out on the Chiltern line and still make it into North Acton by train + tube, or by car, in an hour.
High Wycombe / Princes Risborough stops for example.
I used to live close to J3 M40 - five minutes by car to either Wycombe or Beaconsfield station, or a not as bad as you would think drive to South Ruislip tube.
You could easily get a perfectly pleasant 3 bed semi with garage and half decent garden in one of the nicer areas for £300k.
