I have been asking for over a month now for details of the cost of a lease extension on my property and now i get a letter through (just after the vat increase) saying yes they will ask for an admin fee of £300 + VAT, now that seems a little unreasonable, can I go direct to the freeholder and miss out the middleman or is that not allowed?

Seems like anything I want the property management company will do for a massive fee every time an Im not liking the idea of paying them to pickup the phone and ask the freeholder when i can do it myself.

So can I or do they have me over a barrel?

What exactly are they asking the admin fee for? Is it to administer the whole process of extending your lease (which may require all the properties covered within the freehold being extended) or to approach the freeholder on your behalf to ask about extending the lease. Or another reason.

You are aware there may be very very significant costs involved in having your lease extended (subject to the conditions of your current lease and property law).

this is ask the freeholder what is a reasonable price for the extension of a leasehold and yes i do realise that it can be expensive easily into 5 figures, but it needs doing at sometime and might as well do it now.

Just me extending as all the properties have different lease years left.

No other reason, the letter states i must pay before they talk to the freeholder and then 10 days later they tell me the price of extension and we go from there.

Really sorry but I forgot to ask my colleagues today. I'll try to remember tomorrow.

With luck this bump might wake up someone with first hand knowledge anyway.
