Whilst away on holiday we had a power cut that lasted 35 hours. In the freezer are shoulders of lamb and the usual assortment that a family feeds on. New freezer (12 weeks old), door not opened during the power cut.

Obviously it's now re-frozen when the power came back on, so looking at it tells me nothing.

Should I chuck everything out?

How big is the freezer and how full is it?

This http://www.ext.colostate.edu/PUBS/foodnut/09357.ht... suggests you might be OK, but is it worth it if you're going to worry about it?

I'd try it - I doubt very much whether the centre of the joint defrosted.

The best test IMHO is the old sniffer. And the cat. If the cat won't eat it then that's a bad sign...

Go by the smell. If it smells off, it is off.

Not much will have happened in 36 hours, even if everything had thawed out (which it wouldn't have).

It will all be OK.

Thanks for the info.... Sounds like it should be OK.
