any electricians around ?

I am just wondering how I can telll if a socket in my house is regular 13amp or something more like 20amp ? Is there a safe way to test like with a multimeter ?

If I don't have 20amp where I need it, how easy is it to install ?

basically I am on the cusp of buying a 3hp compressor which theoretcially should work on single phase 13A but some of them can blow a fuse during startup. Also, the sockets in my garage might be at the end of a spur/ring (?) which might not be ideal.

woudl appreciate any pointers on this

Sockets are 13A max.
Sounds like you'll need a qualified electrician to come in and install a permanent installation using larger cable diameter and a permanent 20A switch to cable directly into, this will be a separate feed directly back to your consumer panel.
