i have the space for this but wondered if anyone had any advice. long story short is i plan on splitting the land at my house and building 5 linked single garages. now im at the early stages of this and yet to find out if the council will allow this. however what costs could i expect?
garages would be 10" x 19" each with a 8 or 9" up and over door. is there any silly regs like i must have windows or another door in out. likly costs of a single i recon would be 10k but building 5 id benefit form a good chunk of economies of scale. looking at putting in power and light but not water.

any advice on costs or issues would be greatly appreciated

An alternative would be to contact a concrete garage manufacturer. They do batteries of garages for such applications. Far cheaper and quicker. I assume these are to rent out?

yes they would be. was only considering concrete rather than timber or metal as they need to be durable long lasting and hassle free

You can pick up a concrete 16' x 8' supplied and erected for just under £1k so I'd imagine you should be able to get a battery of 5 for £5k.

Add in a few grand for bases and you should see healthy change from your £10k

Nice little rental earner garages with brilliant yields, the addition of light/power can only make them more rentable - good luck with it.

yep had that epiphany a few months ago. to buy in town costs 10k a garage. yet can still get £100 a month here for minimal outlay

cheers for the link. phoned them just now. they wont come this far north. aberdeen. but did give me some very rough costs. much less than i thought.

main things i think i need to sort out. 2 trees that may have to come down.

checking for underground streams or pipes (no gas in the area but could be other.

i think splitting the land after garages are built would be better.

access to them would be through a shared driveway if i sold the house. solicitor should be able to sort that as well as seperation of the land and a new address being made seperate to the house.

tax implications? does it just come under my income tax and self assessment would be required.

and insurance

Do you have any neighbours? Planning could be an issue I would have thought.
