Hi, our washing machine AEG LAVAMAT TURBO 12710 UPDATE

It has a fault when on the dry cycle.

It doesn't get hot. This happened once before and it was a belt on the top of the machine.
I've had the top off and the belt is still intact and in good condition. It is driving what i can only assume is the heating element/fan as it is wrapped in foil for insulation.

I'll assume this is at fault but what is the correct washer/dryer terminology? so i can aqquire one off the net.
ideas? other things to check ?

cheers johny

Heater and thermostat(s) are common faults. If you're handy with a multimeter you can check them, but make sure it's disconnected from the mains first.

If you're not happy messing with electrics, don't try, it's not worth the danger.

Firstly make sure it's unplugged from the mains (just in case), then.

Disconnect the wiring from the coil(s) remembering which way they go round (just in case). Check for resistance in the heater coil(s), if it's zero ohms, it's U/S as the coil has shorted and conversely, if it's Open circuit, it's U/S.

The thermostat(s) only open when it gets too hot in order to turn the power off to the coil, so, again disconnected from the wiring, they should be Zero ohms when cool, if they are open circuit when cool, they have failed.

HTH,

John.

My Hoover washer /dryer has thermal trips on the top of it, if the condensor gets blocked with fluff etc, the trip pings. Still works as normal but no heat is produced.
