As per the title really. Friend is taking on a new Job at Gunwharf and is going down flat hunting today. Only needs 1 or 2beds but in a nice safe neighbourhooid. What areas should she be looking at, and which to avoid?

What, Gunwharf in pompey?

Why not live in the flats that were built at the same time as the rest of it. Just near the casino biggrin

Thanks guys *blush* - the fun of trying to post from a Blackberry whilst on a moving train somewhere in Norethern Germany :S And thanks to the mods for adding a title. And how do you access a thread w/o a title.. cos I couldn't to read it once I'd seen what had happen - I remember typing in a title... ahh, the joys!

Anyway, yes - looking for good areas in Portsmouth - don't know whether her budget would stretch to flats actually at GunWharf - but a list of areas to avoid within the city would be useful...

The place is a dive mate, you need to move a long way from it I reckon if you want somewhere pleasant.

There are no nice sage neighbourhoods in Portsmouth, it's the only place I've ever been that makes Luton look sophisticated.

a) The roads out are all nice
b) Give up

Portsmouth, in general

To be slightly more helpful, just across the river in Gosport, there are some quite cool converted flats. Have a look for "The Officer's Quarters" or "the Quarterdeck". I lived in the Officers' Quarters (oddly enough, when I was an RN Officer). I wanted the QD as it looks out over the harbour.

Both places are about 700 a month for a 2 bed. I must say, the area is a sthole and so a nice house or flat is a necessary oasis in a desert of steaming anal juice that is Pompey/Gosport.

Exactly, Woking is like Virginia Water compared.

My parents live in Virginia Water.

It's extremely boring, for the record.

Many years ago we lived on Hayling Island ( just across the water from Portsmouth)and my dad commuted with moped via the Island passenger ferry. That might be another option smile
