Is there anything else on a par with these?
Had 2 now both have been great and lasted many years. We've had others but they've been crap in comparison.
Just don't like the idea of spending £2 - 300 on a vacuum.

Joke I heard recently, can't rememember who.

"If Dysons are so good, why are there several at the bottom of every skip".

I've owned two, and don't particularly rate them.

Have to admit the missus does like her Dyson.

How about Miele? Bit more than Dysons but come with a 10 year warranty.

I worked in the industry for a while, the dyson's design is good in principle, however they are made with cheap plastic and break easily, when they do parts are very expensive.

My advice would be to buy a henry or a qualvac if you can find them, reasonably priced and all parts easily available at reasonable cost.

I recently replaced a Dyson with a Miele Cat & Dog. The Miele appears to be better, but ask me again in 15 years' time. smile

Had one for years, and it's still going strong.

Our original dyson was good, but it's now st, they should stop making them more complicated and make them more durable.

10 years of Dyson ownership here. They look quality, appear to be built well and perform well but seem to fail pretty regularly. Our current one is on its second brush and second hose. About 6 years old.

Excellent hoovers, although the bags aren't too big, and rather expensive to buy

Nilfisk.

Folks have a GS80 the got when they married in '71. It's had a few sets of motor brushes, and on it's 3rd hose, but otherwise still going strong.

I've a King 510 and it's excellent, does the house, does the car, it's even been used to clear up after tracking the walls during a house rewire. It's got a much stronger suction than the old one, it'll actually lift the lino off the bathroom floor if you don't put the head on to hard floor setting.

Weve been really please with the Sebo

http://www.sebo.co.uk/Pages/felix_1_premium.html

its steerable and has 2 motors one for suction one for brushes.
this allows them to be separated and becomes a compact cleaner for the car or light enough to easily clean the stairs

utterly recommended

The reason there so many at the tip is because most owners are idiots. If you don't replace the filters on a regular basis they will overheat and trip. KHence the owners thinking they're broken. Keep them clean and replace the filters once a year (using pattern parts which are just as good) and they've last for ages.

Their only real flaw is the poor plastic choice in the design, which is quite susceptible to fatigue cracking. That said, any cracks that appear can be super glued or replaced with a pattern part.

Other vacuums just don't suck as well.

I beg to differ. I generally don't use my Miele Cat & Dog on its maximum suction setting because I can't move it once it's attached itself to something. hehe

Or do as I do and buy any spares you need from the local tip for a couple of quid !

A&E will help with that.
