Carpentry Repair Estimate for Insurance Claim
Discussion
Chaps
When unpacking my furniture after my recent move back from Hong Kong to the UK, I noticed that my wooden bedframe is broken.
It couldn't have been broken in transit and must have been damaged when the removal guys took it apart at the other end. My wife said that she saw a very sheepish, guilty looking guy in the bedroom so it makes sence now.
Anyway, I am now claiming against the insurance policy we took out to cover us for the move and the claims clerk is asking me to submit a repair estimate with the claim form and a photgraph of the damage which I attach here:
As I am new to my area and do not know any carpenters as yet, are there any carpenters on PH that would be prepared to write me an estimate stating that the bed is beyond economical repair please? (replacement bed is £285 pounds.
There will obviously be a drink in it.
thanks
Pete

Send a copy of the photo to the insurance company telling them the replacement cost of the bed. Explain that you have no way of carting round an 8 foot side of a bed round the country trying to find someone who mends beds. If you get someone round to give a price it's going to cost thirty or forty quid which you will expect the insurance company to pay
Give them the option, get the bed mended, replace it like for like, or stump up the £280. You're not in the business of knowing who repairs beds. They will know who to contact if they want you to go down that route. I suspect they will simply send the money.
