Hi,

does anyone know about these? I have one installed in my basement room with delta membrane damp prooofing. the pump is making a electrical type noise - ie a low hum about every 4-5 mins for about 20 secs and then goes off. any ideas? should the sump have no water in at all or does it only pump when it gets to a certain level as theres water in it?

thanks

Would normally have a float switch,so literally 'turns'on and off when float rises with water level....no water = no pumping!

That's how a sump pump works. It will have a float switch and will pump away when the sump fills to a certain level, then stop.
Not knowing how much water you have going into it, it's difficult to judge how often it will pump.

hmmm when you pull up the float switch it makes the noise but theres no pumping ( theres about 10cm of water in there ). Have rang the company to come and have a look - do you think it will need a new pump?

If you have to lift the float to start it pumping then it could be that the inlet is still above water?

You could always empty a couple of buckets of water into the hole and see what happens.

I'll guess it needs a new condensor, about £1.50 from Maplins, or that there's a blockage somewhere.

Intake (or outlet pipe) blocked so the pump cuts out automatically?
