I have just run my heatin for two hours.
Checked the gas before and the gas after.

Hells bells my heatin is currently costing £3.73 an hour to run.

Does this seem crazy expensive to anyone else?

We've just built a new house - it's still not quite finished, but it's costing under 8 quid a day to heat with electricity - which is about 3 times as expensive as gas.

That's 8 quid for heating on 24 hours continuous, with no incidental heating from people or cooking.

Edit to add... so as a rough estimate, your gas usage for 2 hours would heat our house for three days.

Indeed. I suspect the OP forgot to carry the '1' wink

How did you calculate this? Make sure you don't get metric/imperial meters mixed up!

Nope calculations done like this...

number of cubic meters *2.83*1.02264*39.3/3.6 to get the KWH
  • 7.145 pence
All as per British Gas' instructions on the phone.

2.5 cubic meters used in 1.5 hours.

That's 78.98 kWh in 1.5 hours!

You've misread something.

I just looked back through my billing history for the last 5 years online - 4 bed detached house, the highest ever DAILY gas usage was 91 kWh.

British Gas is going to announce price cuts tomorrow, so you will need to re-calculate.

Numbers were definitely right off the meter. And the calculation figures are direct from BG on the phone.

Something isnt right with my system though frown

EquiGas costs 3.5p per kWh excluding VAT (3.675p per kWh including VAT) effective from 30th March 2009

Equipower 12.14p per KWh exc VAT (12.75p per KWh inc VAT)

a quick look up the page suggest BG charging double the price I pay for gas smile

www.ebico.co.uk

everyone knows pikeys use those long calor gas cyclinders as they have caravans

Are you sure your meter is metric? I seem to recall that some meters are still imperial - and BG can have their records wrong. It results in bills that are not at all right.
