After years of sitting on an unstable old office chair with a broken back (the chair, not me, yet!) I've decided to replace it. But with what?

At work I have an Aeron which is lovely but they're very expensive new. I've seen them on eBay for about £400 but I wondered what other options there are for less than that.

I don't want a high-backed 'executive' type chair, just something comfortable.

Any ideas/recommendations?

I'd never have anything other than a Herman Miller Aeron, especially with the lumbar support bar in....
It'll last forever so £400 isn't so bad really.

Herman Miller Aeron x 2

My place got me some orthopedic monstrosity to replace my Aeron when I was having some back problems, I went back to the Aeron within two days.

Humm, looks like I might have to splash out. I guess you're right, an Aeron will last forever (especially if I can raid the office for spares!)....

Work has just replaced our Aeron chairs after about 10 years use. They were great and stood up to 24hr punishment pretty well. Ubfortunately as they aged they got uncomfortable.

We've switched to Humanscale which are infinitely more comfortable. They recline as you lean back automatically without any annoying tension adjustment like the Aerons. Ours have headrests and they also move with the seat back. Superb.

You could try a refurbished Aeron, direct from Herman Miller:

Not far from the same price as you were seeing on eBay.

We now have two - one for me and one for SWMBO - and wouldn't have anything else.

+1 for the Humanscale, have them in the office and very comfortable and supposedly orthopeadically led design - they're not the best lookers though, but comfort is probably more important.

At home we have a Knoll Life (That's not Parker-Knoll - I think Knoll are US based) chair in the study - superb comfort and looks. In my previous practice, when we moved office and had all new furniture, we ran a poll between samples of the HM Aeron and the Life - Life won hands down on conmfort. Great looker too - but similar price to the HM.

I think this thread is likely to end up being expensive for me!

Quite like the look of this that I found after a little light googling for the Aeron:

Just a quick update, in the end I got a re-conditioned Aeron from eBay seller jon130y for £365. It's in great condition and was delivered before 08:30 next working day.

Now sitting comfortably! smile

Hi there: I searched the entire net for a padded Charles Eames chair in black and could only find unaffordable offers. Most of them want to rip you off. Now I found that Staples sells the high back under the name Quinto and the low back version under the name Amalfi . Go figure, but these are perfect reproductions and I was happy to finally find the Eames office chair at an affordable price.
Weird that when I search for "Staples Quinto" the only results are you going around various forums for the last few weeks saying the exact same thing as you've written here.

What's your game then? confused

Oh right hang on...

Spambot - can't Haymarket slap Staples (or chair supplier) for breach of T&Cs?
