Hi Guys,

I have pretty wide windows in my living and dining room. My window mesurements are 230 cm drop x 260 cm width.

Anyone got any suggestions for places to get curtains and also prices?

Cheers

Laura Ashley or John Lewis - can't see why they can't do them in these sizes. Some nice designs too (not all are mumsy or girlie).

Depends on what you want to pay, Laura Ashley will be about £700 +

ebay. Find place that looks decent, get fabric samples, get made to order and save a packet.

Just measured our dining room and oddly they are 230cm drop and 260cm width! Just off the shelf from Debenhams so seems like a pretty standard size.

As such you will certainly get then from Debenhams but I guess most curtain shops.

1) Ready-made curtains - affordable, probably a bit thin, limited choice. Adjust height either by turning up or adjusting curtain rail.

2) Made to measure - expensive, lined, weigted to hang nicely, infinite choice of fabrics.

Depends how much money you want to spend and how long you plan to live there.

Hi All,

Thanks for the speedy replys!

God this house stuff is expensive, checked out next made to measure and it came in at £500 each window.

Will give Debemhams a shot, not sure how long I will want to live here in boring old Croydon!

Try 'Curtain Call' in Cobham, Surrey (just down the A3).

They often have very expensive thickly-lined curtains for sale at knock-down prices simply because WAG (it's round the corner from the Chelsea training ground) decided she didn't like them.

Hi All,

I think I've figured that I should be able to get off the peg ones.

It would appear that the following should fit:

http://www.johnlewis.com/23690/Product.aspx?Search...

as it states "One pair of 228cm width curtains will fit curtain pole up to 410cm"

Problem solved.

One note of caution - remember that a curtain needs to be at least 1.5x the width of the wnidow, or it will be stretched flat - so make sure the width quoted is 'to fit' and not an absolute width!

Hi,

Point noted, I think I might head down to Oxford Street this evening...

Ready made curtains in the standard size 228cm x 228cm (90"x90") should fit without being too skimpy. If you want to have a fuller, more gathered look, some places, such as Paul Simon, do extra wide ready made curtains too. If you can keep to the standard sizes, you shouldn't have to spend that much as there are some good deals about at the moment.

I'm currently looking for curtains for our large windows too, except one of them is over 3.6m wide! Now that is proving difficult to do without spending a stupid amount of money.
