Folks, I have a problem. I am doing z lot of work on the OH's place and need to replace the locks on a pair of wooden patio doors. They are locked. We cannot find key. I started trying to open with a wrecking bar earlier but stopped shortly before the point of damaging the wood. How exactly does one go about accomplishing this task without mullering the door?

A locksmith should be able to pick the lock, or failing that, have a chart of the pivots etc to drill out so the lock crumbles away on the inside

You need an honset thief to help you out. I think a drill will be your ulitmate answer, I do have a guy that I use for stuff like this, but he is based in Yorkshire so not much use to you alas

A locksmith called out for an appointment won't cost anywhere near the same as an emergency locksmith (I hope).

It'll be an emergency locksmith you'll need after bodgering the lock with a drill

Identify the type of lock and then trundle through youtube to get instructions.

Look particularly at bumping (yale type) and snapping (if euro lock)

What sort of lock is it? You can probably open it easily with a bump key, see;

Found the keys in the nick of time, strangely enough in their normal resting place! I suspect the OH but at least the door's intact! Thanks for all the tips. Will consider second career in crime if primary career in crime prevention goes tits up.
