So the lawn seems dry, I finally bought a new blade and it would look beter for a mow.
Would I dammage the lawn/ frost ? or be making more work in the long run.

I'll be waiting until at least the 1st of April.

Too early yet IMHO.

We started mowing today, a very light cut on a high setting with a rotary mower down here in Sussex. Wouldn't get a cylinder mower out yet and leave any mowing till the middle of the day. Will scarify and hollow tine the lawns at the end of week and then start feeding them on the next wet day we have after that. I am doing this as a professional though! Smells like Summer is comingbounce

We are on sand in Surrey and my grass looks pretty sad.Always does.I shall lightly fertalise/moss kill it this week as its warmed up a bit. That will liven it up in a few weeks. Then once we have growth I shall top dress and seed the sparse areas.I have never had to scarify my lawn.never had any thatch build up.
Its going to be slow start this year down south.Sometimes we are cutting in February. One year it dindnt start until well into April. We have had to cut infrequently over the winter some seasons.
Grass doesnt stop growing in the winter it just slows right down.
If its long cut it.......lightly.If its very long reduce it in stages and recut it in a week or so once it has recovered ,slightly lower each time, that way it wont yellow or damage it.Just dont cut it if its frosty.
Bear in mind that once you cut it ,it may kick it into life if the weather remains warm,so your cutting season will start!

Oh and why do they keep putting adverts on my posts?

The rule of thumb is 5 days below 5C and it stops, you need 5 days over 5C to start it again.

I'd only do it this time of year if it long and scraggy from last year and if the ground is dry which is very unlikely at the moment.

I heard that grass stops growing at 47F - is that the same thing?

Errr... counts fingers, takes off socks...

47F is 8.3C

5C is 41F

Not much in it then, it is a rule of thumb.

Different species of grass perhaps!

(Personally I like a nice bit of Festuca)

You and the OP are in the South, and temps are falling back through the week - possible snow by Friday. So I'd be a bit careful.
