Can you bury plastic pipes and fittings in a cement floor ?
If you can, do you need to insulate/ cover it. Do you need to allow for expansion and contraction of the pipes and joints ?

I would put them in some sleeve lagging, maybe even foam if the depth of screed allow. I would never bury a push-fit fitting, though, only a crimped joint. Heating pipes, I take it?

underfloor heating involves miles of a more rigid plastic hose without any thought of problems

Pipe will be fine aslong as there is no tight radius bends, but joints I'd avoid in the floor.

Seen a lovely tiled conservatory floor ripped up because of a leaking John Guest Speedfit Tee.

Also sent to another stunning house that was constantly losing pressure on the boiler, never found the source of the problem, but did spot some speedfit fittings poking out of the screed. Would hazard a guess and say thats what was causing it.

What are the pipes servicing?

Can I jump in here.

I need to run a ring main cable under the floor to save going up and over a doorway. The floors bituman and old. If I did a small trench appx 3' long and run the cable in a metal tube would that be ok? Also, what would I fill the trench in with that would be ok until I get the whole floor done, one day!

run the cable in plastic conduit. then back fill it with a mix of sharp sand and rapid set cement eg: Jetcem

it will go off fairly quickly and will be walkable same day.

I would try and avoid doing so if possible. I would try and run the cable vertically from the last socket, through the ceiling space and drop to the next in the same manner. If you must install the cable in a floor, you need to be careful.

The wiring regs are pretty vague where it concerns solid floors as opposed to timber floors where they are very clear. I would recommend you bury the cable at a depth greater than 50mm from the floor level if using plastic conduit. If this cannot be achieved you should used earthed metal conduit.

The cable should be RCD protected (which is a requirement for all sockets in premises not under control by instructed persons anyway).
