I'm currently puting some trunking over some pipes to box them in. To fix the clips to the wall I need to drill behind the pipes, obviously, where I suspect an Earth cable runs. There is therefore some potential to drill into the Earth cable. Any sneaky ways to avoid this (other than gluing the clips to the wall) please?

Earth for what?

You can get detectors that will detect cold cable in walls.

Looks like an Earth bond on a water pipe, rather than a socket.

Would the detector work if it's between two copper pipes?!

Cold dectectors are basic metal detectors so no it wont work between 2 copper pipes, the best way really would be to piggle away the plaster with a screwdriver in the place you want to put your screw, if you get to the blockwork without finding the cable then its safe to start drilling.

It's done. Just chased away some of the plaster where I wanted to drill to make sure I didn't make a silly. Not tidy, but hidden behind the box section. Thanks anyway.
