The cloches came off last week and outside we have overwintered Aquadulce broad beans and onions. Still picking last years brussels sprouts. Ate the last of the cabbages in February, and the last leeks in January.

Planted a row of first earlies on saturday evening in the rain, variety 'Foremost'. Very nicely chitted before they went in. Put them in reasonably deep with a good 3 inches of soil covering them. Anyone experimented with black polythene in this situation to bring them on faster?

Under glass nicely growing away now after having been germinated in the airing cupboard in modules from seed sown in late January we have bush tomatoes 'Tumbler Tom', cauliflowers 'All Year Round', leeks 'Musselburgh' and cucumber 'Marketmore 76'.

Here's to a great 2010. Get digging beer

Cheers for that link I shall now await my free seeds. thumbup

My free seeds have arrived and they shall now be getting planted out in the allotment as soon as we build a fence around it to stop the wind and wildlife from eating everything.

Having a go properly this year.

Got myself a cheap 12ft polytunnel with 6.5ft head height, spent most of Sat in there tottering about. Fixed up some old plastic shelving as make-shift stageing.

Trying from seed for the 1st time.

In the trays currently, Lettuce (Mixed incl. Rocket , Endive).

In the propagator now, Tomato (100's and 1000's), Strawberrys (alpine), Cucumber.

Germinating in clear bags, Chilli (Cayenne , Dorset Naga and Scotch Bonnet) & Sweet-peppers (Mixed).

In the spud bags, 1st earlies (salad variety) 2nd earlies ready for next w/e (cheated a little and bought them pre-chitted).

Awaiting sowing in 2 weeks time, Runner Beans, French Beans, Marrow, Courgette, Carrots, Beetroot & Sweetcorn.

I bought some long troughs, approx. 6ft long and 12in deep and have drilled the bottoms for drainage, would these be ok to plant small Carrots & Beetroot in drills??

Also in pots in a sheltered spot all the herbs. Rosemary, Blackcurrant Thyme, Sage, Chives, 3 diff. Oregano, Parsley, Tarragon & Basil, all of which were trimmed back at the end of last year and all seem to have started sprouting again (much to my amazement!).

Nowt as yet... but intend on..

Tomatoes (F1 variety - very tasty straight off the vine)

Spring Onions

Onions

Beetroot

That's about our lot to be honest. Most of the other stuff just doesn't seem to do very well for us.

Chillis - both red and green

The blackcurrants, Gooseberries, Raspberries are all starting to show signs of growth. Hopefully the roohbarb will start to make an appearance soon.

The garlic has already started and I should really plant the bulbils as well from last year..

We've got stacks of woodchips still left from 12+ months ago, they need to go down "everywhere" to suppress the weeds and also there seem to be quite a few people wanting to get rid of manure around here, so will pick a bit of that up next week as well, before the bark chips, to give a bit back.

ETA : Basil as well, almost forgot!! That was great last year.

Garden already has Chives, Mint (!) and Rosemary in it.

Signed up for free seeds too smile

I have had good success with strawberries in the past couple of years so I'm expanding that patch. That patch takes most of the best light that I get unfortunately (north facing garden).

Apart from that I only have a couple of mid-size pots for plants so the seed pack should be perfect.
