Hi All,

Can anyone recommend some companies (either online or around the Milton Keynes area) from which to purchase solid wood flooring at reasonable prices. After a quick browse online, it would appear that dedicated wood flooring companies are somewhat cheaper than the large DIY superstores.

thanks

Greg

I bought about 60m2 of oak flooring from these guys around 3 years ago...http://www.cityfloors.co.uk/

No idea if they are still competitive, but at the time I got a good product at a very reasonable price and found the company easy to deal with, including arranging an out of hours delivery.

Not local to you but I've just ordered 28m of engineered oak from here: http://www.carpentersofyork.com/ and the floors they have seem very nice to me.

I've been looking online for this kind of thing and this is the best product/price I've found so far.

I'd be interested too smile

I read somewhere that you can glue it to a screeded floor, rather than have it "floating." Is this true?

The adhesive is very expensive, that I do know!

I have used http://www.1926woodflooring.co.uk/ in the past. They have a showroom in daventry with all samples in stock. They gave me a few samples to take back home. Great service at a good price.

So whats the consensus RE engineered real wood flooring. I initially though no, must go for the full solid approach, but after reading up on things the engineered wood does have many many benefits.

I have fitted engineered flooring, looks pretty much identical and can even be sanded and re-finished if needed with the benefit of lower cost. I would choose engineered every time.

I used these guys for approx 80sqm of prime French Oak, very very good quality timber, very good prices too. Apparently the owner has his own forest somewhere over the opposite side of the world yikes
Timber was delivered on time as promised by a nice gentleman who brought it all into the house and piled it up onto slats to let the wood breath.

Very knowledgeable people.

Would you mind giving us a rough price per metre you paid for these? Just want to judge what part of the market they are catering for. Cheers

Sure. From memory, i think it was approx £25-£30 sqm - this though was 5 or 6 years ago. We opted for 100mm width planks of prime ( no knots ) French oak - unfinished, i.e. the fitter finished on site - sanded and lacquered.
I visited a few shops like 'Floors2go' e.t.c., but was recommended this place in Billinghay - quite an impressive place and *very* knowledgeable staff.
I originally wanted Walnut, but this was coming it at around £50 sqm. So, my next choice was an oak, and this prime French with a little discount for quantity worked with our budget.
Billinghay also recommended a fitter who specialises in wood floors - his price was about £1000, which i didn't think was too bad considering it took him a full week, and quite a few bags of self leveling to level the hallway and other areas.

Not sure of today's prices, but i would think, fitted, job done, using good grade timber approx £50+ sqm. Remember - the larger the area the better discounts possible, therefore the price per sqm *possibly* could come down.

Oh, and use the recommended adhesives and oils/lacquers (can not remember what we used now - but it wasn't cheap)
