Having never rented a place or rented out my own house before, what is the score re making offers on a PCM quoted price? Is it to be treated in a similar fashion to a house price or is it generally accepted that the advertised price is the price you pay? I appreciate it will no doubt be subject to the usual supply/demand economics but is it the norm to make an offer, at least at first?

I've made an offer in the past, but this was based on the fact the agent told me it was over priced and that it had been unrented for 9 months.

Can't comment on the ettiquette though...

Just try your luck - they can only say one thing.

I made an offer when i moved into my place, and got it! Amazing really, as since i moved in 2yrs ago, nothing else has come up in this building close to the price i pay! I pay £580, and i've never seen anything else below £700! Maybe it's just because it's unfurnished?!

They can say yes or no, worth a try.
