Just gone to switch the pump and filter back on for our garden pond and noticed a big mass of frog spawn amongst the grasses.

I don't think we've had this before and the fish obviously haven't got to it.

Whilst I've no issue with the odd frog or two, is the survival rate of frog spawn likely to mean we end up with a (relatively small) garden overrun by thousands of frogs?!

We're not in the countryside or close to "bigger water" so I'm almost at a bit of a loss how Mr and Mrs Frog made it to our pond in the first place!

Once they have gone past the tadpole stage and are mobile they will seek out new territories, it won't be like a frog refugee camp in your garden smile

I have no pond in my garden but I have lots of frogs.

Last spring saw the little things hopping around all over the lawn. They are very cute when perfectly formed but no bigger than your little finger nail yes

Frogs are good: they eat spiders

The mortality rate is quite high so I'm sure most will croak it.

Not many last until frog-hood. If you have fish they will eat them, and they even start eating eachother if there isn't enough else to eat!

They're a good source of fresh food for the fish.

My neighbour has a pond just above our drive way, which runs for about 50 meters.
Due to it being spawning season (correct termonology?), there are literally hundreds of frogs on our drive way at night ...... have you ever tried walking home pissed in the dark when there are that many frogs, you would hear a crunch every 10 meters

So to answer your origional question yes you soon wont be able to walk for frogs!

My way of tackling this problem has been to play frogger, except I control the car.

Wait until you try mowing the lawn after the froglets have left the pond. hehe

Still no spawn in my pond - ungrateful little gits.

Seriously that's the kind of thing that freaks me out more than "nature at work".

yes We have frog spawn most years and seem to have taddies all through the summer. As for being overrun with the critters - no.

Sticks.

Probably get snakes too, like we do here.
