Our Washing machine has finally given up the ghost after many years of abuse!

What's the general consensus on what is good these days. Our old one was a Lavamatt 50520 but we don't plan to spend too much this time £300 would be the most we really want to go.

Cheers.

What, half an hour gone and nobody's recommended a 3x-the-budget Miele yet?

Ex-showhouse Siemens here, got it as new for £200 biggrin

Indesit Moon. That's if you won't blow the budget on a Miele or Bosch

Sorry I'm late. The answer is Miele - what was the question again?

Can't kill our Miele washing machine - c18 years now and has needed only a new set of bushes in that time.

Has anyone mentioned Miele yet? hehe

I have a Bosch Classixx and although I don't use it, I do get nice clean clothes appear in my wardrobe ironed and folded.

What more do you want?

I have a John Lewis "own brand" machine bought a couple of months ago - it comes with 3 years free warranty, it has a roomy drum, and so far it works very well.

eta - this is it http://www.johnlewis.com/230420541/Product.aspx

Which website's Best Buys http://www.which.co.uk/reviews/washing-machines/be... includes Zanussi ZWF16581 £347.89: Beko WME7247 £244.00 both rated 71% compared to the top rated machine at 74% and the Bosch
WAE24468GB Exxcel £343.00, rated 70%.

Just below them are Hotpoint WMF 760 A Aquarius+ £339.00: Bosch WAE2416SUK Classixx £319.00: Hotpoint WMF 760 P Aquarius+ £299.00 : Bosch WAE24164GB Classixx £295.95: Hotpoint WML 560 P £275.00: Hotpoint WML 560 G £280.00: Candy GO482 GrandO £258.99: Whirlpool AWO/D 5526 £247.00 @ 68%

Those are their prices so you can maybe find better. FWIW, local indy is the first choice near me for all white goods. Good price, service and advice.

If they'd said that in the brochure I'd have bought one!

Ah, but that does include an add-on that's veeery expensive to run.

We've had 2 Zanussis in the last 20 years and 2 kids. The trick to keep the cost down is to get a simple one rather than all singing all dancing with 101 electronic programmes. I don't know, but I guess the innards are pretty much the same and if they're not, then I don't much care as we've only had 2 in the last 20 years and 2 kids (did I say that already?).

I've always found the advice on this site very helpful:

http://www.ukwhitegoods.co.uk/modules.php?name=Con...

Does tend to be biased towards choosing stuff that's built to last and easy to fix, which is what I like smile

We went for the Bosch Exxcel 7, does everything we need it to and been really pleased with it. Looked at Miele, but it was a good chunk more expensive than the Bosch and we couldn't justify it.

Bosch has been hammered by us really, we have a little one who we use real nappies with so it's on most days, no issues whatsoever though.

I put a Miele in my flat 16 years ago and left it there when I rented it out when I moved out...still going strong. I bought another Miele for my current home 10 years ago and no problems with that either.

Yes they are expensive but they are bloody reliable.

I would agree that buying a simple machine whichever one you go for is worthwhile...though anything that helps on economy may be worth having. Utility bills are not going to get cheaper in this country....

Just asked the wife, we have a Bosch, 2000 vintage.
No issues, nothing fallen off yet, just works, even at this age.
Wahing machine is still fine too.

Both my washer and dryer died last weekend, I too researched Which? and bought a Bosch WAE24468GB Exxcel for £345 from Electro Centre - was the cheapest, ordered on Saturday delivered Tuesday before 9am.

It seems ok so far, no issues other than its got different programmes to the old Zanussi which means it's taking a while to fathom. Everything comes out clean. Highly recommended.
