Hi Guys,

We have a local window company coming around tonight to price up for a new front door and two windows (lounge and master bedroom).

These guys have been used by a local PHer so I have seen their work but what sort of questions should I be looking to ask?

The Sales guy on the phone asked if we were looking at UPVC or composite doors but I have no idea what the difference is!

The plan is to get the front of the house done this year and then do the rear next year (kitchen window, large back door, bedroom window and bathroom window).

Cheers,
Phill

Composite doors look more like real wood, and give the same security/multi point locking that PVC doors do. Imo they are much better looking than their PVC equivalents. I'm sure thats reflected in the price as well.

Just back from a door showroom this minute,i'm going for a composite door, couple of hundred more expensive, but seems far superior. The door threshhold is much lower and the look is more realistic.

Hi Mike,

Thanks for that... anything will be better than the wooden/glazed door we currently have that is letting lots of cold air in

Front composite, rear UPVC.

Just had this done by a local company, door is made by Door-Stop who I know anyway (I've put machines in there).

Superb bit of kit.

I can recommend Distinctive Doors, at least in terms of good price, good service and delivering a quality internal door. They do composite sets, so might be able to supply the door you need

Well that wasn't cheap!

New front door with 2 new windows (3 openings - two full length with windows approx 1.2m wide(I think)) - £1600

New front door with 2 replacement panes in the front windows (the ones that have blown) - £850

Those figures and measurements are off the top of my head and include all fees (building control etc) and VAT.

I was thinking it would be about £1000 - £1100.

Our Composite door was £1200 fitted along with a fan light. A lot more solid than a PVC one, take care though as some are thinner than others (probably why they are cheaper)

Composite doors look alot nicer than PVCu ones as the front door on most houses, they is a price difference but you get what you pay for.
