always buy the professional dulux - much better than the consumer stuff.

I found that B&Q one coat (made by DuPont) covered bright colours really well when Dulux needed about four coats!

Yes. Every time.

You'll end up buying more of the cheap stuff due to the number of coats required, thus cancelling out any saving in terms of cost/litre, but there'll be additional costs in terms of labour and time to do apply the additional coats.

Also don't forget that unless you are going for the beige/off white there may also be the factor of who does a colour you like.

I was once told that all the Dulux paint is the same - no matter whether it is their 'expensive' or 'cheap' range.

I can't vouch for how true this is, but it came from a reliable source.
