Is it low pressure and high pressure? You have HP ones for mains feed and LP ones for toilet cisterns (ie gravity fed)

It's mains fed via a rising mains pipe into the attic.

Looks like it's brass.

Ah good, I had to replace one in the header tank in our loft and wasn't certain what the HP/LP difference was, I figured HP was for mains.

OP the one I picked up was marked 'Part 1' High Pressure, it's identical to the one already there, just with less limescale.

Having said that, it has stopped dripping since I gave it a fiddle - at least I have the replacement ready to go.

If in doubt go into a plumbing shop and tell them what it's for. Keep the receipt just in case.

You can still fit Part 1 ballvalves to central heating header tanks.

So to what does part 1, part 2, part 11 refer?

Can I only replace mine with a part 1?

Thanks.

No, you can replace it with a Part 2 if you like.

Ballvalves are BS 1212 and it's te BS which is refered to as 'Part 1' or 'Part 2'.

A Part 2 Ballvalve will have a 'up and over' outlet to maintain the correct air gap for contamination prevention.
Actually...
I think you might need a Part 2....
I ALWAYS use Part 2s now as a matter of course since the difference in price is negligible and I only have to carry one type in the van. A Part 2 is also adjustable without bending the arm...theoretically.
