How to find the owner

I was wondering how would i go about finding the owner of a house, i have lived on a small street for 22 years now an at some point im going to have to get my own place. So across the road from me is this house and the owner left it a good 10 years ago and not been back, the story was he left to look after his mum as she wasnt to good but hes never returned to his house. nothing in the house has been touched for years and would need gutting, as i live across the road i was hoping i could buy it as a 1st home and bring it back to its former glory. So i ask the people of piston heads for the answer,

As above Land Registry for a few quid will tell you, but if same address then an option is to post a letter to the house (with the hope he has a re-direction set up to new address)amir_j said:
