May seem like a daft question, but with the good weather last weekend I opened the BBQ which has been laid up all winter to find some lovely rusty iron grille and flat plate on our gas bbq.
Rather than spending a fortune on a new bbq, does anyone know if its possible to repaint these without poisioning anyone who eats food cooked on them?
If so - any recommendations on the paint I should be using, I'm guess heat proof would help! smile

I would have thought that giving them a bloody good clean with a wire brush to remove the rust & then get a few coats of Olive Oil smoking hot would be absolutely fine.

Personally, I wouldn't paint them

We've got a BBQ that is now almost completely rusty. Not just the grills, but the whole thing!

It's one of those ones where it has a compartment to burn logs, then the charcoal from that is used to cook the food.

Are there any other suggestions to getting the rust off, would struggle to heat olive oil all over it!

I just put the thing on full blast for 15 minutes to kill any nasties etc and then cook on it.

Its part of the BBQ fun, will I wake up with food poisoning?
