Over the last month or so I've ripped our old bathroom out and installed a new one complete with tiles covering the entire room, all walls etc. (not the ceiling obviously!).

Because I can't stand the sight of them I wanted to get shot of our light pull cord and came across something that I never knew existed...light switches with a difference.

You simply place a little circuit board behind a chosen tile which is wired using speaker cable or similar to a control box in the roof and by touching that tile and that tile only you can control the lights. I've wired one as you walk in and one to the side of the bath allowing you to dim the lights whilst in the bath should you wish to.

More info here - just to add I have no affiliation to the company just bloody impressed with a gadget I didn't know existed.

Not sure if this is the right forum as these 'gadgets you never knew existed' don't have to be house orientated.

If the mods allow, a link to the source may be of interest to anyone who wants to look further if this thread is of interest...

I love PH. Just about to start re-doing the bathroom, this gadget has now been added to the design.

Bloody hell, I should be on commission wink

The switch is the central small tile (I know, the grout needs cleaning but you can only do so much at one time!)

As you walk in, you simply brush the tile to the left of the heated floor control.

That's pretty good... like the idea and was impressed with the perspective thing until you realise you need to have a Wii controller of sorts; shame it can't just monitor someone's head perhaps based on heat signature.

Mirror heaters. Had these put in my bathroom and are absolutely brilliant. Without them the mirrors steam up and are useless. I have them wired in with the main lights so they come on together. No more steamed up mirrors!

I was going to have them in our second on-suite as we were also recently replacing the shower, and adding some mirrors on the wall. I decided against it as I wasn't able to hook up the power to the lights and it was just too awkward.

Great idea though and not massively expensive.

Going to do both the mirrors and these switches in my new bathroom, what a fantastic idea!

That's pretty cool, cheers thumbup

Does the sensor literally just stick onto the back of the tile and sense when you touch it? It's not like the tile is a big push button because its not going to move once it's grouted in.
