We're only running a combi boiler and a gas hob but the heating bill for last month was over £200 which was calculated at over 7000kw/h.

The heatings on a thermostat so not on all day does this seem excessively high? any ideas on getting it down?

Turn the boiler off unless you need hot water or heat.

A combi boiler should only come on for hot water when you run a tap. Heating wise, you say it's on a thermostat, what is the program/ timer set to?

You sure they haven't just read your meter and been operating on estimated bills for too long?

I think that there have been a few problems concerning the over-reading of meters. Something to do with 'them' confusing readings between the old type meters and the new ones. Might be worth checking with your supplier.

7000 kWhs in a month works out at nearly 10kW an hour.

Either you've had some serious underestimates in the past, or all the windows have been open.

We had a similar issue. When we started with British Gas the first month's bill was 200 quid for a 2 bed flat with two of us in it.

Turns out we'd got it set up so that the hot water was kept boiling hot 24/7.

We now switch the boiler off unless we want the heating on, and turn it onto hot water ten minutes before we want a bath/shower.

Bill is now 30 a month!!!
