Yes they're keeping EPC's, but they're only £45

Bet all the HIP companies and wombles who trained themselves up (at presumably great cost) are happy.

I hope so - shelled out £250 for someone to come round for 5mins, knock on a few walls, and hey pesto here is a complete survey of your property - hummmm, well worth it.

Any idea when this is going to happen? I'm about to put my flat on the market and as yet haven't organized a HIP? If it's going to be months away I'll begrudgingly pay for one, but I'd obviously prefer not to.

I think the longest they will wait is in the emergency budget in 50 days time, but I think if they did this there would be a big 2 month stall in the housing market, I reckon the announcement will be in the next few days....IMO

Watch this statement come back to haunt me :-)

Isn't the chap that comes round the EPC guy? The rest of the HIP is made up of searches and the house \ content questionaire which you will need to complete anyway?

They should scrap the EPC too! It’s an absolute load of rubbish and until they actually carry them out properly they are not worth the £50 piece of paper they are written on!

Oh no forgot they can’t it’s an EU requirement!

Agree - they are complete an utter boolsheeit, I can't stress enough how completely, fully and absolutely worthless they are.

The fact that you can just wack a few energy saving lighbulbs in and double your score seems madness

Great, just folked out for one, luckily we've found a place to buy, so the stall won't effect us.

Its complete tosh. I couldn't care about the EPC, I'm not going to pull out of buying a house if it costs an extra £3 a month. The full HIPS is also meant to contain all of the searches, but it bloody doesn't. My solicitors have had to submit for the searches themselves. The HIPS search isn't a full search, only good enough for mortgage companies, apparently.

Why? Our new build has energy saving downlighters everywhere, it also has the best insulation. This house is cheaper to run than the one that was a third of the size. However, the difference is the new build had an air leakage test done etc, i guess with retro EPC all they do is use a computer to make a guess at what the insulation would do.
