My Miele washing machine has been making a funny noise, sort of a ticky buzz from the motor. I took off the lower front panel and can see that the main drive motor brushes are sparking quite significantly. Anyone know if this is normal? Does it mean the brushes are worn out (machine is about eight years old) and if so are they easily replaceable? I don't want to call out Miele service unless absolutely necessary as they charge £80 just for a call out!

Thanks

Probably best to call a professional otherwise you risk making a Miele out of it if you do it yourself...... getmecoat

Had this a month ago on a 10 y/o Bosch - Changing brushes didn't fix it or cleaning up and undercutting the commutator. One of the coils had gone open circuit - New motor required, or in our case, new machine.

Sounds like brushes to me.
Certainly the cheapest option in a diy repair punt. If you can't source any for that specific model you can try getting similar brushes that are larger and just file them down.

Indeed it is the brushes -one of them worn down to nothing. Bought a new set on ebay for £18.95.

Thanks to all (even for the dodgy pun).
