Hello

Please can anyone recommend an insurance company who will insure an unoccupied property?

I complete on my purchase on Friday and just called the company who insured the last unoccupied property I owned, and which I've just sold, and apparently they no longer insure unoccupied properties... great! I know I should have done this earlier and am cross with myself as I'm normally very organised with everything else, but the insurance completely slipped my mind this time for some reason!

The property has been lived in previously, but I will be stripping it, replacing bathroom and kitchen and redecorating, then putting it back on the market, so I don't know if that amounts to renovation or just redecorating, I'm told that it might make a difference?

I will not at any point be living in the property.

Any helpful advice would be greatly appreciated.

try towergate. they do specialist policies.I had a renovations, buildings & contents policy with them and it was cheaper than the conventional cover I have now.

Thank you very much Shirt wink , I have just called them and they will insure my property for 6 months for £270 (ish!)

Does that sound about right? It's a 1950's 2 bed semi.

Perversely I suspect most fires are caused by occupants, so an empty house should be lower risk... nuts

sounds about right. I think I paid about 40 a month with contents and I was living there at the time. its very comprehensive cover. my only complaint being that I was burgled and the loss adjuster they assigned was next to useless.

You could also try UGM Magenta - although I'm paying a fair bit more than the figures quoted so far

In theory there is more risk if changing a bathroom and kitchen (floods) than just adding a coat of paint, but when I insured an empty property, it wasn't mentioned.

Have you tried http://www.justlandlords.co.uk/unoccupied-property...
