Does anybody know roughly how much it'll cost me to have a boiler installed?

I have taken delivery of the boiler and flue, so in my mind it's simply a matter of hanging the boiler, core drilling the wall for the flue, and connecting to the main gas pipe.

Thanks

Where is the nearest suitable drain?
Is the gas supply large enough?
Does the system require flushing?

Physically fixing the thing to the wall and drilling through the wall for the flue isn't rocket science granted. But, any gas engineer with sense would only knock off a minimal sum for you doing this for him, not worth bothering with.

One possible way of getting it done on the cheap might be to contact your local technical college, one that trains up gas safe engineers. Ask if any of them need some real life installation experience they can use for their training portfolio. They do the installation and the tutor signs it off. Might work out cheaper.

I only suggest this as we are getting a family friend who's a plumber to relocate our boiler. He's doing it on the basis described above, as part of attaining Gas Safe status.

I cant imagine a technical college encouraging their students to break the law. An unqualified person can work on a gas appliance for training purposes only if supervised by a suitably qualified person.

RE the above.

My mate is a plumber and doing his gas safe training part time. He's relocating my boiler next week and it will be sdigned off by his mentor/tutor from the college. That's how he's explained it to me anyway. Apparantly this makes up part of his learning portfolio??

Is it a boiler swap or a brand new installation? Swaps are usually cheaper, but you can do some of the donkey work yourself if it's a new install.

If you are competent enough run the feed/return radiator pipes up to the boiler location and also do the same for the cold in (if it's a combi) and the condensate to drain. You could also drill holes to the outside for the flue, but the installer might want to do that himself.

The gas pipe to the boiler might need to be left to the installer, as it comes under the gas safe regs.

Yes all the pipework is in, I just need the boiler fixing to the wall and the connection made to the main gas pipe.
