Recommend me a tree...

Folks,
We've moving into a new build next month, and the garden is a fairly large, generic plot. It backs on to a number of other plots.

I'd like some height at the back of the garden, although with some sensible restrictions - Something fairly slow growing would be good, and something that's not going to cause neighbourly rows either Ideally I'd like it to look great, maybe flower or fruit perhaps?

So, gardener's thoughts..? (and pics would be great!)
