Ok so I would like to build a permanent bbq in the garden.

The plan is to use concrete lintels to form a U shaped base like these

The plan is to use breeze blocks like this, up to around 1m in height

http://www.wickes.co.uk/Aerated-Blocks/invt/154032

Then lay four or five lintels like this across.

This will all be painted in white.

Then go up on the lintels with some nice bricks like this about four courses to house the steel bbq bits.

Any thoughts? Any heat problems?

Looking at the materials you have chosen I would say it will look pretty nasty! then again Im not 100% sure of your design idea!

Worse than naff , you will be seriously disapointed in the finished item ,

one way to ensure the Mrs never invites anybody home for a bbq though wink

Click, slot together and cook.
OK, it might turn out to be only 18" tall when it gets delivered, but it's hassle-free.

You might be able to rent it out to a passing U-Boat though...

on no account use concrete !!!

It has to be fire proof brick or prefabricated fire proof material ( the bbqs you see already made are made with a special heat proof matrix like a fire brick ) , If you use ordinary concrete , it will heat up the air gaps inside the concrete will expand under heat and the concrete will explode !!

No i am not joking ,

my brother did exactly the same , ended up in casulty nearly lost his sight
