Moving out of my shared house at the end of the month, and I need to fix an internal door that I had to kick in when I lost my keys at 3am! (Flatmate let me in the main house but I couldn't get into my room!)

It's just a cheap and nasty internal door that has a plus (+) shaped crack in, exposing the interior of it (I presume it has one of those cardboard fillings)...

Does anyone know roughly how much it'd cost to replace and what type of tradesman I'd need (Carpenter I presume?)

Why don't you just get a cheapish internal door from a DIY shop, should be about £60-80 and just unscrew the old one and replace it with the new one?

Not really a job that needs you to pay a carpenter.

If it your first time I am sure there will be a "carpenter in 2 hours magazine" you can buy from Smiths

Could be as little as £15 depending on the style of door. If you have decent DIY skills just switch the furniture (handles, hinges and lock) from old to new.

Surely I'd need to chisel holes for the lock/etc and then have to plane down the door to fit the frame?

I might just asked the LA to take it out of my deposit if it's a cheap job...

You'll need a new lock too - unless you found your keys.

You'll need a few tools and if you don't have them then I'd be more inclined to disclose it to the landlord and accept the [reasonable] cost of repair.

I have the keys, and I did disclose to the LL but he never replied to me, and it's recently been taking over by a LA.

I don't think I have the tools, I'll tell the LA.

Can the hole not be filled, sanded and re-painted?
