Would this put you off of a new flat?
Discussion
Me and my girlfriend found a really nice apartment in a really quiet area, garage, loads of space, etc, we've paid our deposit and gone through the credit checks..
Now (I know I should've done this earlier!) I have looked at getting internet/TV/phone installed and it turns out we live in an Non-LLU area (can't get fast internet), also, Virgin haven't cabled the area and we aren't allowed to put Sky dishes up (So that it doesn't look like a council hellhole, I presume).
Would not being able to get decent internet and Sky/Cable put you off? I don't currently watch Sky/Cable anyway but I do download a lot.
Is it worth giving up a place that you really like for? I'm leaning towards the "No, just grin and bare it" side of things at the moment...

The flat will probably have a feed from one main sky dish to feed all the flats. Now (I know I should've done this earlier!) Mine did.
Worth checking.
I had this exact issue when I was moving, loved the flat but could only get 3.5 Mb through the line
I opted to go for it and the best BB provider I could find which happened to be plusnet
Good traffic management 80 Gb limit but any use between 12am- 8am doesn't count
The main thing is I do get the full 3.5 from them and it's fine I hardly notice any issues and any downloading gets done overnight
Don't give up on a flat because of it, one you like is hard enough to find

Thanks for the help,
I REALLY should've checked it before we signed up, but it's the first time and I was always bound to forget something!
I've emailed Virgin Media and they replied immediately CC'ing a local exec who's going to look at supplying the area.
There's 200 odd houses, if there's no Sky allowed then Virgin would make a killing by cabling the area, as I imagine the uptake would be huge.
I'll check out Plusnet, thanks.

Thanks, we've actually checked with the letting agency as there was a Sky dish on the outside of the property when we inspected it.Mine did.
Worth checking.
They basically said that if someone complains about the dish then it incurs a charge from the management company to the landlord which would then be passed onto us.
We have seen Sky dishes around the place so I don't know whether they're telling the truth or not.

and no caravans or boats.
Every house has a dish now and boats and caravans are about.
You might be surprised at how much you use the net, I came from a cabled area to one on the arse end of an exchange without LLU.
Some days I am lucky if I can get a third of a meg download speed and web pages load like dial up, very frustrating if my son is on youtube and my mates want to play COD.

I'm sorry, I have no idea, this is the exchange in question though:

I don't actually watch that much TV but I was looking forward to getting some HD movie channels to watch!
