We have a recently installed duck pond. Innocently, I thought it was a case of dig a hole, lay the liner, connect a water pump for fountain (to aerate), plant plants, introduce ducks, lay in sun. This is the point we are at right now.

However, the pond has very quickly gone green and the water is not very clear at all, in fact it also has a not-insignificant amount of duck poo in it.

Advice please on what else I need to do? Presumably I need to add some kind of filter to the pump? Will I also need to manually clean it out every so often???

All practical help and suggestions appreciated.

My Grandad kept ducks and they st everywhere, he used to empty his pond and brush it out a couple of times a month.

Good luck keeping a small pond clean.

I used to keep ducks and they had their own pond. The only way to keep it clean is to pump it out and scrub it down. I did this weekly in the summer and sometimes fortnightly in the winter. Ducks are very messy birds but so full of character!

You can't.
They st everywhere, then go splat splat splat all over it with their feet.

You will soon discover, you can either have ducks, or a garden, but not both. hehe

Best way of keeping the pond clean is to give the ducks away.

We had the same problem with 3 Indian Runners. They went to a nice lady with 13 acres and a moat, so they have a nice life and I now have a clean pond.
