Possibly a bit 'lateral', but what about companies that fit out boats? A lot of them have U shaped sofas? Granted they aren't free-standing but it may be a starting point.

Have you tried somewhere like sofa.com? I don't know if they'd build a sofa to your spec, but it's worth asking.

I used Nabru for a large U shaped, not a particularly premium product by any means, but perfectly OK for the price, and a bespoke fit to any size.

Are they good Nabru? Me and the OH are looking at them and we're not too sure on the quality... What material do you have on it?

Same goes for http://www.intosofa.com/, I bought two sofas from them.

I can't remember if there were two different types of cushion for the seating, but mine is a little on the soft side

I had a sofa custom made a few years ago - a company in North Devon but I don't remember the name now, sorry. There will be a fair few specialist companies about I would have thought - try contacting some interior design companies as they usually know about such people

A decent re-upholstering company should be able to knock something up.

At work I deal with a number of upholstery manufacturers locally and we often commission our own designs.
Not as easy as you might expect and typically I had made a 3+2+1.5 seater for my daughter's house based on a combination of design features she had seen in multiple stores.

Product development was problem because our first one was a bit short in the seat and too low for comfort, then there was picking the fabric, filling and springing. I was able to sell off the prototypes in the shop and cut costs by doing a limited run of the finished product.

The people I'm thinking of are not IT contactable so if you think I can help then PM me!

Suggest you sketch what you want, also find a pic of something similar and I'll compare it with some standard designs. Easiest to make a modified version of a running model.

If we can find something you like I can cost it out in a day or so and get it made in about a fortnight.

Your best bet is contact your local Upholsterer ( I am one ) they can make what ever you need what ever size you need it, anything.

adapting a current sofa is the same as starting from scratch, I would offer to do you a quote but as i am traveling round asia at the mom it might take a while to get it done !

if you want to do it on the cheap there are some website that let you "design" your own, you obvisously have to go with their desighns and there premade sizes but they are a bad option if you like the look of them.

For a custom one speak to a craftsman, their will be loads in the yellowpages under upholstery
