They are good but think, value for money, the general consensus on PH is Halfords Professional range.

a lot of the stuff being sold with Snap-On branding is no different, or very similar in quality to the Cornwell and Mac. Bluepoint and Facom are pretty good too.

But it's a lot of money and these tools are aimed mostly at the professional user.

Snap on do make some fantastic tools but imho as a 'professional' the advanatage is they come to you & the lifetime warranty on the tools. Their support is fantastic & thats what the extra money pays for smile

Some of my friends 'in the trade' seem to think the quality has diminished in recent years and reckon they've worked out it's more cost effective to honour the lifetime warranty more frequently than it is to over engineer everything they make.

Personally, I favour Halfords Pro and stuff like Teng; it all seems pretty well made for the price you pay. I sometimes see makes like Bergen for sale on the rare occasions I go to shows and they don't seem too bad either.

A few weeks ago I had delivered, a set of Snap-On 'Blue Point' spanners 10mm to 19mm for £48 on ebay, these are the budget tools of Snap-on, the excellent quality is evident compared to my other 'carboot sale' spanners.
Tempted by Snap-on for a few more bits but then like most on PH, I'm not a professional, so maybe I'll nip down to good ole trusty Halfords.

Cheers for advice

No, not when 90% of other tool companies also have a no quibble lifetime warranty range, at a third of the price...

Halfords Professional range all day long, especially if you can blag a trade card. For what Halfords don't sell everything else is a mixture of the Sealy pro range with the odd bit from Machine Mart.

The Halfords warranty in my opinion is worth more than Snap On in some ways, how many stores that are open 7 days a week do Snap On have?

I have a mix

Snap on is good but just to dear.

I like draper expert, syke pic and teng. the halfrauds pro stuff is very good.

It depends what you doing with it?

Trade use snap on cos you buy it on tick how/why else do people spend £3500 on a airbrushed toolbox

I've been a long term heavy user of spanners and swear by Snail Brand I also like my bread sliced thick and my beer warm but is house and garden the right section for spanner talk?..lets ask Tonker .

Except when my local branch asked for proof of purchase before they could act on said warranty. That would be the spanner with Halfords embossed on the shaft that could only have come from Halfords......

Gedore tools are very good quality, their budget brand Carolus is ok. They made me redundant by shutting down the Gedore subsidiary I worked for, but I'd still buy gedore over snap on.

I have many Halfords Pro and Snap on tools but only used for light work and building my kit car. If you are working every day on cars and such like then Snap on are great. the BIL always uses Snap on for his work and has done him great. But as above the Halfords pro are very good at a great price

gonna have to say, that the only ratchets and sockets i would use are Koken, made in japan and with a lifetime warranty, any problems whatsoever and they will recall the whole lot and replace, do ya research and see for yourselves. a lot cheaper than snap on too. i have also heard that if you need an odd sized ratchet they will make it.
I'd like a 12353092323 sized rachet. I have a 12353092322 and a 12353092324, so a 12353092323 would complete the set. Do you think they'd be able to make it, or is it too much of an odd size?

My tools are mainly snap on and I've had them for the last 20 years. They are good but with other manufacurers giving the lifetime warranty now they look very expensive plus you need to find a snap on man to swap them when they break, which they do occasionally. Only things that arent worth buying that are snap on are items made for them by other companies like welders etc as these can be bought cheaper else where.
