Hi, I want to fit an alarm to my house and garage as a deterent for sticky fingered gits.

I work offshore so the house lies empty for 4 weeks at a time so the alarm would have to be very reliable,as I wouldnt be there to answer any false alarms etc.

There is an ADT place near me but I hear they have very poor customer service. Can anyone sugest a company in Fife to supply/instal & maintain an alarm system for me?

National Security Inspectorate has a company finder.

http://www.nacoss.org/?q=approved_company_finder

However, just because a company is NACOSS approved, doesn't always make for a decent alarm installation.

There are good installation engineers, and bad ones. The bad ones will install sensors (PIRs for example) in a location that makes the wiring easy rather than installing them in a location that will minimise potential false alarms.

ADT have quality equipment, but as mentioned if installed poorly, it will be as reliable as a £49 B&Q special. ADT also very expensive.

A local company would probably be a better bet - but look for a genuine alarm company rather than an "electrician who also installs alarms" - Also seek recommendations from friends/colleagues etc

I could go on and recommend equipment brands to look for, but fear I may confuse the issue a bit, as there is a LOT of technology available these days.

Are you looking for a "bells only" system (ie makes a noise and scares scroat away, and gets the neighbours attention) or a monitored system (contacts a response centre 24/7 in the event of an alarm activation - false or genuine)?

If monitored, you will need to have a keyholder who can respond when you are away from home.

Thanks for the reply.

Yes I think you are right, too much would just confuse me as I know next to nothing about these things.

I will check for local companies, and see whats available.

I would prefer a monitored system as when I'm away I would have to rely on others to reset any false alarms, my parents and another relative would both do this for me.
