Just a guess that this is the right forum.

I think at least one of the wheel bearings is on the way out on my Father in Law's trailer. It's a very small unbraked Lider which I don't think is still in production, although it's not that old. Do trailers like this have taper bearings like cars?

In anticipation of needing some bits, I've googled and searched Ebay but very few people seem to sell spares for specific trailers. How can I identify what bearings I might need to order?

The bearings won't be specific to your trailer - the manufacturer of the hub assembly will have bought them in from a bearing supplier. To find out what they are, you need to remove one and look for a part number etched into the circumference. You can look the number up on a bearing factor's site (like this one I've just found) or take the bearing to a motor factor / trailer shop who will most likely have a book they can look it up in.

That's exactly what I will be doing, but I just thought I'd enquire in case a bit of prior knowledge would make life easier.

Thanks, that's helpful. I didn't know if bearings had marking in them or not.

If a taper roller bearing, take a look at both pieces, each will have a number stamped on.

Probably you will have a bearing supplier nearby,Wyco(formerly EW Bearings) are pretty much nationwide I believe.

I had a trailer bearing go 'cough' quite spectacularly, bought a replacement ERDE set, (at huge expense) then found that the Engineers store at work had both sizes as obsolete, so getting chucked out.

Best to get the bearing numbers as suggested and take it to the experts, as trailers can be made from a hotch potch of different part.
