New turf arrving in 10 days - Prep advice please..!
Discussion
Hi all
We moved into a new build house about a month ago, and thanks to the North West hosepipe ban, the turf was initially delayed, but is now arriving in 10 days.
At the moment the garden isn't all that level, and is covered in weeds (12" minimum) and lots of build rubbish, rocks, bits of pipe etc.
I have no idea what the contractors will do (suspect they'll rotovate the whole lot inc weeds and then just whack the turf down) but wanted to do my bit to ensure a decent quality lawn...
Will the weeds be an issue if they are not removed, or will the act as food for the grass? Should I attempt to clear the weeds perhaps? (sorry if that's a dumb question!) And with what..?
Pretty sure (looking at the other gardens) that they'll level it, so not too worried about that
Thanks all

I'm not sure the weeds will be that much of a problem as I would expect them to all be cleared. If the company laying the turf are half decent they'll remove the top part of soil and lay some decent stuff down before levelling and laying the new turf.
One thing you might want to check though is how much rumble is under the soil, I dug about a foot down across my garden and removed tonnes of rubbish from just beneath the surface.
Are you able to get advice from the comapny on prep work, or are they just builders? They migt check the drainage quality of the soil i.e. do you need to mix some sand in etc

If this is a new build they will just rake the surface leaving all the s
t in there, if they did the job properly, ie, removed all the bricks, stones, bolders, you would have no "soil" left. Still, mine still looks half decent.
This.

it's down you'll need to water lots for the first few weeks, and I means lots. Really soak it.
