Wasp nests. How to kill it to death?
Discussion
We have a wasp nests attached to a tree in our garden. I went out with a 5ltr petrol can and a lighter but the wife shouted at me before I was able to burn them to death and probably burn the house down in the process. My attempts with a shot gun where also swarted by the wife. Apprently shooting at it would be irresponsible good fun.
So I need a less manly way of removing said wasps nest?
PS
The wife is out of the house this afternoon so I can attempt various ways.

1. Get a golf chipping practice net.
2. Line said net witha large bin bag that is no secured at the top.
3. Slide under the wasp nest.
4. Take a long set of pruning shears and cut the wasp nest stem dropping it into the bin bag which will pull closed.
5. run away cos they'll be right angry buggers.
6. Sneak up on them and tie off the bin bag.
7. 2 mins high power in microwave.

Doesn't the council come and sort out wasp nests if you ask them?
Or you could call a pest control company and let them risk being stung to death instead of you!
(A shotgun is going to do nothing more than piss them off - imagine how you'd react if a giant pointed a huge gun at your house and f
ked up your s
t).

Since the wasp nest is made of paper, it's more flammable than the tree around it. So if you've got a hosepipe handy, you should be able to set fire to the nest without causing significant damage to the tree and the rest of your garden.
Burning is good - gets shot of all of next year's eggs.

Wasps overwinter as adult queens, not as eggs. The nest will be starting to wind down now - the queen will stop laying eggs soon. No eggs means no larvae. The adult wasps feed the larvae on chewed up insects, in return for the sugar they secrete. No larvae means unemployed hungry wasps looking for sweet stuff. I'd definitely kill it off quickly. Wait until dark and attack it with one of those foam aerosols.
A boringly practical way, is to buy a can of fly spray, tape it to the end of a long piece of wood (the longer the better), and then tape down the nozzle with some gaffer tape. Pick it up, and direct the spray into the hole at the bottom of the nest.
Slightly more fun, is to fill a tin can with petrol, and hold that under it. Be prepared for angry wasps working their way up the stick towards you though.

I'd think just pouring in diesel would deal with it - no lighting involved. That stuff majorly pisses off moles, so I can imagine it being quite effective in dealing with wasps.
Of course, if it spills onto the garden it may have some effect, but nothing ventured nothing gained...
I like this expanding foam idea though. You might just end up with some seriously f
ked off wasps though.
