I’ve got 4 swallows in my porch area, and I want to get rid of them, knocked the nest down but they are back, and making a mess outside my front door, which means I have to hose down the porch every day. Any one know a good way. I’m thinking of mixing ground up rat poison with some bird seed. Not in the EU, and behind a locked drive gate, so no restriction, except I can’t get a gun.
Now along with the wild ideas I would appreciate something that solves my problem but allows them to move on and live.

Cut out of cardboard or similar and hang up some shapes of Swallows which may put these birds off from trying to nest in there. A bit late for them nesting anyway I would`ve thought as our Swallows are grouping together and looking like they might migrate any time soon.

I suppose if you keep hosing the nest away or knocking it down they'll give up.

I have 5 house martin nests on my house and it's brilliant albeit it a bit messy. They must have hatched 30 chicks this year.

There was a prog on R4 about how swallow numbers are declining partly because there are fewer places in the UK for them to nest.

We may have found the culprit...

Put up a box somewhere else and hopefully they'll go there instead.

Put up a silhouette of a hawk with long wings like a falcon.

This.

Get a bird of prey model and place it nearby. They won't like it.

You could consider putting up some nest boxes at a nearby and more convenient location out of sight of the bird of prey model. Might divert their attention.

Downside of a nest is the poo and the danger they'll fly into your house. The upside is watching them remove all the nasty little, bitey insects our of your garden's airspace is simply brilliant.

Aren't you being a bit harsh? He doesn't actually want to do them in - just discourage them from nesting someplace really inconvenient! They're not UK Swallows, either. In Malaysia I doubt they're endangered...so it's more like wanting to put up anti-Pigeon wire in the drainpipes than anything else...

Actually I am a nice guy, but I live in a place where animals are common , and when you have had, snakes, bats, lizards, monkeys etc in your house you cease to have the rose coloured view of animals you can get in a big UK city. These things are dirty and their droppings and feathers will encourage insects rats etc of which there are loads. They have to go I like the idea of the cardboard birds of prey, bird houses aren’t the answer, there is open ‘jungle’ across the street so they have no need to live on my porch.
And living in a country with no social security I keep my sympathy for the kids and people I regularly see with nothing a few swallos don’t come high up on my priorities
Flinstone If you think I’m bad come and see they guys who around shooting the pack of ‘wild’ dogs, I’m not talking about the cozy domesticated things most of you think of.

Sorry but "There's lots of them and other people do worse" isn't really a defense, is it? I've lived in the tropics and 'suffered' having all sorts of wildlife around, never felt the need to poison them rather than run the hose for a few minutes a day though.

They come back every year. But at least you have time to knock down your porch and build another one around the side.
