I've looked back a few pages on this forum and saw no sign of this topic (didn't bother messing with the search function) so thought I would post it up.

I am looking for some inspiration regarding what to do with my room in the house. So, what have you done with your room/man cave/den/pigsty? Not so much garages but your room within the house....

Cheers!

  • A PH1 Screwdrive, Pliers and snips
  • iPod Speakers (never used)
  • Various network cables

I'd intended having one of our rooms turned into a "man cave", complete with Scalextric track, PlayStation & telly, toolboxes (because you never know when you might need to drill or hammer something).

Somehow Mrs Pints managed to stick a bed in there and condemn the Scalextric to the attic. irked

My man cave is the cupboard under the stairs.! Although I could only have it under condition that she could keep a few of her things in there (so far, the vacuum and iron!)

But its got my tool box, socket set, drill bits, drill, sander, paint, car wash kit, boxes full of various wires/plugs/general crap!

Although I'm looking at moving upwards, I really fancy a mega train set in the loft.

My wife now refuses to enter the cave as it stresses her out.

Three book cases, 2 desks, 3 desk top PCs and 4 lap tops, 2 chairs, 1 large whitebaord, 1 CCTV system to watch the drive, 1 shredder, 1 comb binder, 4 printers (1 dead one), 1 chest of drawers for 'things' and 3 filing cabinets for other 'things'. Only one wall light works and that has one of those stupid low energy bulbs and I have no ceiling lights so I have to work by desk lamp.

Overall a bit of a mess of books, more books, files, odd papers, remote control spiders, bits of IT, and 1 large bag of paper for (eventual) recycling.

I have plans for a complete revamp in spring next year as the plaster has to come off the walls for damproofing work to be done when the aging carpet wil go and the wooden floor exposed.

I have a friend who has to do the same - uses a 15in tv for his xbox and has to play it in the cupboard under the stairs!

My cave is similar - 3 desks (well, one I built around the wall on two sides - had to build it as the corner included angle is about 78 degrees), 3 book cases full of my geek books, a couple of stacks of magazines, my scale modeling stuff on one desk, desktop on the other, and my rapid prototyper being built (and where it'll live) on the other desk.

I think it needs to be a bit more grown up so I was looking around for some vintage/classic posters of 1950's Farnborough airshows or 1930's Hendon Air Displays or Schneider Trophy. I've seen some great car racing stuff but doesn't really do it for me.

yes

Good, isn't it? I might die alone and unloved, most likely of something embarrassingly trivial that would have been fine had someone else been around to call the doctors, but until then I get to watch what I like on my TV when I want.

Wise man once told me, "he who dies with the most toys wins!"... bigger man cave = more toys!

Not very impressive but as no-one else is posting pics and as the saying goes this thread is useless without them here goes -

Aged computer dual booting Win XP (not very often) and Ubuntu from a hard drive scavenged from a PVR box

Ornaments, a Stiggy bank, a signed picture of David Batty and a model of a 205 rally car. I've got another 205 to dig out but we've just moved in.

Oh and ahem the decorations. Yes, pink walls and butterflies. I like to say I'll sort it out, but I'll probably just fill the room with enough distractions to ignore it. The big box in the corner there is for my remote control plane which I missed out!
